Lars Williams, a founder of Empirical spirits, tells Fast Company that the idea came to him at a work lunch. A co-worker brought a bag of Doritos chips. Williams, hit with a burst of inspiration, stole the bag of chips and got to work turning it into a liquor.
The task was well-suited for Empirical, which has developed the technology of distilling to enable the development of new flavors. The resulting product tastes exactly like the cheesiness of Doritos chips. PepsiCo and Frito-Lay were deeply impressed. The product comes to market in January, but you can pre-order bottles here.
