Imagine the reaction when you serve a drink that looks like a snow globe with a Christmas tree inside! The holiday treat has gone viral in various demonstration videos. The "Christmas tree" is actually a sprig of rosemary, the tip of a branch. I have rosemary growing in pots, and it smells delightful, but you can also buy sprigs at the grocery store. You stand a sprig up in a glass, add a little water, and then freeze the glass. When you pour a clear carbonated beverage into the frozen glass, the bubbles will rise to give the drink a snow globe effect, and bubbles will cling to the "tree's" branches. It looks great for any clear beverage, even without the carbonation.
Kiersten Hickman at the kitchn tried out this trick and found it delightful. She posted the instructions with all the steps and tips for making your Christmas tree cocktails special. They also have a list of holiday cocktail recipes, in case you want a refill that's more colorful than gin and tonic.
