Leek-Flavored Ice Cream Is Real

Sora News 24 tells us that the city of Fukaya, Saitama prefecture, Japan, is known for local dishes that use leeks (negi), which grow in abundance in the surrounding countryside. This vegetable is so popular that the city mascot, Fukka-chan, is an anthropomorphic leek.

Leeks are a winter crop and it is now in March that leek season reaches its end. To keep us all thinking about them, though, the city is promoting leeks by offering leek-flavored soft serve ice cream that is topped with leek shavings and decorated with Fukka-chan’s leek-shaped headwear. Each cone costs about ¥480 ($3.17 USD).
