Ramen Dish Comes Topped with Tasty Giant Isopod

When I order ramen, I often worry that the chef will skimp on the meat. That wouldn’t be a problem at Ramen Boy, in Taipei, Taiwan. Taiwan News reports that this restaurant announced on Facebook that it offers a dish called “giant isopod with creamy chicken broth ramen.” It’s topped with a whole Giant Isopod (Bathynomus giganteus).

Don’t worry about safety: the isopod has been cleaned, gutted, and cooked. The staff removes the digestive tract, but keeps the tasty glands, as well as the meat, which is steamed. Taiwan News reports that the meat tastes something like crab paste.

You’ll pay for eating it, though. The dish is priced at about $48 USD. But I'd gladly pay that amount to add another item to my Animals I Have Eaten list.
